Introduction

To execute workshop and plant activities towards the establishment and maintenance of pilot plants, laboratory apparatus and client products, as per prescribed designs, engineering drawings and/or plant measurements.

Preventive Maintenance Activities
  1. Execute planned maintenance inspections on various mechanical plants and equipment, making use of mechanical theories to effectively interpret conditions of plant and equipment and determine causes thereof.
  2. Compile reports on the status of inspected equipment.
  3. Submit report with recommendations to Supervisor.
  4. Identify resources required to execute required maintenance.
  5. Plan execution of recommended maintenance activities.
  6. Execute planned maintenance as per plan.
  7. Report back to Supervisor on completed work.
Reactive Maintenance
  1. Respond to breakdown of equipment and plant.
  2. Assess the extent and cause of failure.
  3. Identify the best remedial action to be taken, taking into account the impact of downtime and cost of repair.
  4. Inform Supervisor of the failure/breakdown and request required spares.
  5. Execute repairs to failed equipment or plant and commission. Ensure high quality of workmanship to prevent recurrence of failure.
Projects
  1. Interpret drawings (PFD's, P&ID's and Structural) to assemble plant and equipment as requested by internal clients.
  2. Design, manufacture and install water, air, gas and steam reticulation according to relevant quality and safety standards.
  3. Commission pilot plants.
  4. Assist internal clients in decommissioning pilot plants.
Other
  1. Perform risk assessment before carrying out work.
  2. Supervise subordinates and ensure they work safely.
  3. Act in the Foreman position in the absence of Foreman.
  4. Ensure high quality of work in all maintenance activities.
  5. Minimise wastage of materials and spares when maintaining equipment or making new fixtures or structures.
  6. Perform standby duties, responding to calls after hours regarding failed equipment, plant and services.
  7. Mentor trainees.
Qualifications and Experience:
  1. Grade 12 / N3 plus Fitter Trade Certificate.
  2. Training - 3 years on the job training.
  3. 5 years minimum experience.
