Job Title : Physiotherapist

Location : Life Rehabilitation Unit at Life New Kensington Clinic (Johannesburg)

Reporting Line : Therapy Services Coordinator

Job Summary : Providing Occupational Therapy Services for all patients admitted to the Rehabilitation Unit.

Reporting Structure : Therapy Service Coordinator : Audeen Brinkhuis

Critical Outputs
  1. Provide a Physiotherapy clinical service to all patients admitted to Life Rehabilitation Unit, including on some weekends and public holidays.
  2. Conduct assessments, plan programmes and administer treatment to patients with neurological disorders such as TBI, CVA, SCI, orthopaedic conditions or multi-morbidity conditions such as Guillain Barre, etc.
  3. Collaborate with other therapy disciplines.
  4. Have experience in pediatrics and adults.
  5. Provide individual therapy daily.
  6. Facilitate groups weekly with patients.
  7. Provide necessary chest therapy where required.
  8. Assess and recommend appropriate assistive devices.
  9. Explore physical limitations for possible return to work options and reasonable accommodation requirements.
  10. Actively participate in the spasticity management programme.
  11. Conduct home visits when required to ensure a safe and appropriate discharge destination.
  12. Educate patients and their families about the patient's condition.
  13. Participate in discharge planning and carer training.
  14. Contribute to weekly team and family meetings.
  15. Keep accurate and timeous records and reports.
  16. Effectively respond to queries and handle accordingly.
  17. Implement professional therapy services in accordance with Life Healthcare protocols and procedures.
  18. Function effectively as a part of an interdisciplinary team to meet the requirements of quality patient care.
  19. Attend and contribute towards Continuous Professional Development activities of the unit.
  20. Supervise and train university students, as required.
  21. Promote and maintain sound and productive relationships with referral sources and stakeholders in the field of Rehabilitation.
  22. Participate and organize marketing days and awareness campaigns.
  23. Provide training and CPDs to the multidisciplinary team.
Requirements
  1. B degree / BSc degree in Physiotherapy and current HPCSA registration.
  2. + / - 5 years' experience in hospital-based multi-disciplinary rehabilitation.
  3. Special interest in the treatment of adults with neurological disorders, NDT training an advantage.
  4. Basic / intermediate seating and spasticity management an advantage.
  5. Experience in multi-disciplinary care.
  6. Commitment to quality patient care and customer satisfaction.
  7. Patient advocacy.
