Job Purpose: The Department of Local Government Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to ensure tight monitoring of Community Development Workers, maintain regular contact and monitoring of CDWs in the region, and act as regional coordinator when necessary.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. An appropriate 3 year National Diploma/B-Degree (equivalent or higher qualification);
  2. A minimum of 3 years' relevant experience in community development;
  3. A valid code B (or higher) driving licence. NB: People with disabilities that restrict driving abilities, but who have reasonable access to transport, may also apply.
Recommendation: Proof of voluntary work to the benefit of the community.

Key Performance Areas:
  1. Develop the local work programme taking into account the National, Provincial and Municipal Programmes Competency;
  2. Liaise between Regional Manager, Municipalities, and Government Departments (Provincial and National);
  3. Reporting and information management;
  4. Stay abreast of all services rendered by government and the processes and mechanisms to access the services;
  5. Supervise community development worker teams.
Competencies:
  1. Knowledge of relevant legislation/policies/prescripts and procedures;
  2. Applicable policies and service delivery orientation;
  3. Cognizant of the regulatory and compliance framework;
  4. Dynamics, culture, and language of the target community;
  5. Government operations and procedures.
Skills needed:
  1. Communication (Verbal and written);
  2. Computer literacy in MS Office;
  3. Literacy and numeracy;
  4. Presentation;
  5. Influencing;
  6. Motivation and analysing skills.
Remuneration: R 376 413 - R 443 403 per annum (Salary Level 8). Note: In addition, service benefits or obligations for qualifying employees (medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc.) are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.

Notes: Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit documentation for verification purposes and criminal record vetting. These candidates will be required to complete a practical assessment and attend interviews on a date and time determined by the department and may also be required to undergo competency assessments/proficiency tests. The selection process will be guided by the EE targets of the employing department.
