Minimum Requirements:
  1. A minimum 3-year degree or diploma in Veterinary Technology is essential for this role.
  2. Must be fully registered with SAVC as a Veterinary Technologist (not student registration).
  3. Previous experience having performed bacteriology/molecular-based tests would be advantageous.
  4. The successful candidate must be computer literate.
  5. Have the ability to carry out laboratory bench work and interpret results.
  6. Must be analytical and innovative thinking.
  7. Have the ability to write SOPs according to minimum standards.
  8. Must be able to implement plans.
  9. Must have a clear understanding of QMS (ISO/IEC) laboratory accreditation principles.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Assisting with various laboratory functions within the micro and molecular veterinary laboratory.
  2. Providing feedback to the operations manager on all work-related matters.
  3. Performing all test methods according to the training capacity or competency.
  4. Performing and reporting tests within specified turn-around time.
  5. Maintaining a minimum stock level of all materials needed.
  6. Participating in serology proficiency testing schemes.
  7. Reviewing and verifying test results.
  8. Using appropriate methods and techniques to carry out diagnostic tests.
  9. Participating in elaborating and reviewing SOPs.
  10. Promoting and maintaining laboratory safety procedures at the section level as well as efficient laboratory conditions required for personnel safety and effective running of diagnostic tests.
  11. Providing guidance to laboratory assistants.
  12. Completing and participating in non-conformance investigations.
  13. Assisting with other work when and as required.
