About the Role
Our client is seeking a diligent and technically proficient Geological Technician to support their exploration and mining activities from their base in Port Elizabeth . This role will involve assisting geologists in the field and laboratory, collecting and logging geological data, and performing basic sample preparation and analysis. You will play a key part in generating reliable data that underpins critical exploration and production decisions. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong foundation in geology to gain hands‑on experience within a respected mining company.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist geologists with field mapping, data collection, and sample acquisition.
- Log drill core and rock samples accurately, identifying rock types, mineralization, and alteration.
- Prepare geological samples for assaying and laboratory analysis, ensuring proper handling and labeling.
- Perform basic geochemical analyses and tests under supervision.
- Maintain geological databases and ensure the integrity and organization of geological data.
- Operate and maintain basic field and laboratory equipment, reporting any malfunctions.
Requirements
- National Diploma or Certificate in Geology, Earth Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience (2+ years) in a geological support role or as a field assistant.
- Familiarity with geological terminology, rock identification, and basic mineralogy.
- Proficiency in data entry and basic computer skills; experience with GIS or geological software is advantageous.
- Ability to work effectively in both field and laboratory settings, often in remote locations.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
