About the Role

Our client, a renowned architectural and design firm with a significant presence in Mossel Bay, Western Cape , is actively seeking a highly experienced Senior Healthcare Architect. This critical role focuses on the design and planning of complex healthcare facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and specialized medical centres. You will be responsible for leading design teams, managing projects, and ensuring that facilities meet the specific needs of patients, medical staff, and regulatory bodies. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design and planning of new healthcare facilities and renovations.
• Develop conceptual designs, master plans, and detailed construction documents for complex medical projects.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant healthcare regulations, codes, and standards (e.g., NHBRC, Occupational Health and Safety Act).
• Collaborate closely with hospital administrators, medical professionals, and stakeholders to understand functional requirements.
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, medical gases).
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and client expectations throughout the design process.
• Conduct site analysis and feasibility studies for healthcare projects.
• Review construction submittals and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Mentor junior architects and contribute to the firm's expertise in healthcare design.
• Stay updated on the latest trends and innovations in healthcare architecture and technology.

Requirements

• Professional Architect registration with SACAP.
• Minimum of 10 years of architectural experience, with at least 7 years specifically focused on healthcare projects.
• Proven track record of successfully designing and delivering complex healthcare facilities.
• In-depth knowledge of healthcare planning principles, medical workflows, and space programming.
• Familiarity with infection control protocols and patient safety considerations in design.
• Proficiency in architectural design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and relevant visualisation tools.
• Strong understanding of South African building codes and healthcare-specific regulations.
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and client management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under pressure.
• Experience with project management methodologies is advantageous.
