About the Role
Our client is seeking a knowledgeable and results-oriented Crop Specialist to join their agricultural team in Welkom, Free State . This role focuses on optimizing crop production through the application of scientific principles and modern farming techniques. You will be responsible for advising on planting strategies, soil management, pest and disease control, and harvesting procedures to ensure maximum yield and quality. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and recommend planting schedules, crop rotation plans, and field preparation strategies.
- Advise on the selection of appropriate crop varieties based on local conditions and market demands.
- Monitor crop health, identify potential threats from pests and diseases, and implement timely control measures.
- Conduct soil testing and recommend appropriate fertilization and nutrient management programs.
- Oversee irrigation scheduling and techniques to ensure optimal water availability for crops.
- Guide harvesting operations to ensure timely and efficient collection of produce at peak quality.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Crop Specialist , Agronomist, or in a similar crop production role.
- Strong understanding of agronomy, soil science, plant physiology, and integrated pest management (IPM).
- Experience with various crop types relevant to the Free State region.
- Ability to conduct field assessments and analyze crop performance data.
- Excellent communication and advisory skills to guide farm personnel.
- A degree or advanced diploma in Agronomy, Crop Science, or a closely related agricultural discipline.
