About the Role
Our client, a highly respected architectural practice with a strong focus on sustainable design, is searching for a Principal Architectural Technologist to join their team in Centurion, Gauteng. This senior role is crucial for translating complex architectural designs into buildable, technically sound solutions. You will be responsible for ensuring the technical integrity of projects, from detailed design development through to construction administration. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction documentation, building regulations, and materials science, combined with a keen eye for detail and a problem-solving mindset. This position offers the chance to work on a variety of challenging projects and contribute to the technical excellence of the firm in the vibrant Centurion area.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of detailed technical drawings and specifications for architectural projects.
- Oversee the technical design process, ensuring compliance with building codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Provide expert advice on construction methods, materials, and technologies.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to resolve technical issues during design and construction.
- Conduct site inspections and quality control assessments to ensure adherence to design intent and standards.
- Manage and mentor junior architectural technologists and technicians.
- Review and approve shop drawings and material submittals.
- Stay abreast of new building technologies and sustainable construction practices.
Requirements
- A National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Architectural Technology or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 12 years of experience as an Architectural Technologist, with at least 5 years in a senior or principal capacity.
- Expertise in BIM software, particularly Revit, and advanced AutoCAD skills.
- Thorough knowledge of South African building regulations and SANS codes.
- Proven experience in producing comprehensive construction documentation packages.
- Strong understanding of building physics, materials, and structural principles.
- Excellent project management and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
