Our client seeks a strategic and experienced Director of Parks and Recreation Operations to lead the management of public recreational facilities and programs in Port Elizabeth . This senior leadership position is responsible for the overall planning, development, implementation, and administration of a wide array of park services, recreational activities, and community events. You will oversee a dedicated team, manage significant operational budgets, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and foster strong community partnerships. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional leadership acumen, a deep understanding of municipal operations, and a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents through accessible and engaging recreational opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the acquisition, development, and maintenance of parks and recreational facilities.
  • Oversee the management of all departmental operations, including budgets, staffing, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and accessibility regulations.
  • Develop and manage innovative recreational programming and community engagement initiatives.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with community groups, stakeholders, and other government agencies.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in parks and recreation management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven experience in budget management, strategic planning, and staff supervision.
  • Thorough knowledge of recreational programming, facility operations, and landscape management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and public relations skills.
