About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Substation Engineer to join their growing team based in Durban. This role is essential for maintaining and upgrading the critical infrastructure that powers our communities. You will be involved in the design, commissioning, and troubleshooting of high-voltage substations, ensuring operational integrity and adherence to safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in power systems and a keen eye for detail, contributing to the reliable delivery of energy across KwaZulu-Natal. This position offers the chance to work on significant projects within a supportive engineering department.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, specify, and engineer new substation equipment and protection systems.
- Conduct site investigations and prepare detailed reports for substation upgrades and new installations.
- Perform protection relay settings calculations and ensure their correct implementation.
- Develop and review schematic diagrams, single-line diagrams, and wiring schedules for substation projects.
- Support the commissioning and testing phases of new substation components and systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to substation operations and maintenance in Durban.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in substation design and engineering.
- Proficiency with substation design software and engineering tools.
- Strong understanding of high-voltage equipment, protection schemes, and SCADA systems.
- Experience with field work and commissioning is advantageous.
- Ability to work effectively in both an office and field environment, demonstrating a commitment to safety protocols.
