About the Role
Our client, a well-established engineering consultancy based in Paarl, Western Cape , is offering a valuable Mechanical Engineering Intern position. This is an on-site role designed to provide aspiring engineers with practical, hands‑on experience within a professional engineering setting. As an intern, you will support the engineering team in various capacities, gaining exposure to different aspects of mechanical design, analysis, and project management. This is an exceptional opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a real‑world context, learn from experienced professionals, and contribute to meaningful projects. The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented student with a strong desire to learn and develop their engineering skills. You will be involved in tasks ranging from CAD drafting and documentation to assisting with testing and data collection. Key Responsibilities
- Assist Mechanical Engineers with CAD modeling and drawing creation using relevant software.
- Support the preparation of Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical documentation.
- Help conduct research on materials, components, and engineering standards.
- Assist in the setup and execution of mechanical tests and experiments.
- Collect and organize test data for analysis by senior engineers.
- Contribute to troubleshooting efforts and problem-solving under guidance.
- Attend design meetings and project reviews to gain insights into the engineering process.
- Help maintain engineering lab equipment and workshop organization.
- Shadow experienced engineers to learn about different engineering disciplines and applications.
- Complete assigned intern projects within specified timelines.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Strong academic record in relevant engineering coursework.
- Basic proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software is a plus.
- Understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering principles.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Commitment to completing the internship duration in Paarl .
