Your purpose

The Head of Commercial Supply Chain plays a pivotal role in strategically overseeing and optimising all aspects of the supply chain for the Mr Price Group, ensuring efficient and cost-effective operations while aligning with the company's commercial objectives to drive profitability and customer satisfaction.

A typical day would look like this:

Strategic Management:

  1. Lead the provision of ongoing direct and strategic commercial support and insights for the Logistics/Supply Chain team
  2. Develop and implement commercial strategies to achieve divisional growth
  3. Ensure an effective logistics strategy that intelligently deploys capabilities to optimise the use of inventory and resources
  4. Monitor market trends and competitor insights to identify key risks and opportunities, building a response in collaboration with key stakeholders across the business
  5. Leverage data and market research to identify strategic commercial opportunities and new developments in line with business strategy
  6. Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop mitigation strategies to minimise disruptions

Operational Excellence:

  1. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the supply chain, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness
  2. Implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance supply chain performance
  3. Collaborate with various departments, including marketing, IT, and customer service, to ensure seamless operations and customer satisfaction

Commercial Excellence:

  1. Drive a clear and compelling commercial strategy for the division to align with the Group's strategy, vision, and mission
  2. Oversee the commercial input for responses to proposal requests from potential principals or customers, ensuring compliance with proposal requirements and alignment with the business strategy
  3. Lead the commercial input for all new investment opportunities and the preparation of Capex motivations to support sustainable investment
  4. Conduct new project appraisals and feasibility assessments

Stakeholder Management:

  1. Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, and internal teams
  2. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure alignment and collaboration on supply chain initiatives
  3. Identify, build, and nurture trust and collaborative relationships with key partners, both internal and external, including regulators, government, and suppliers
  4. Regularly evaluate supplier performance based on quality, cost, and delivery reliability

Team Leadership:

  1. Lead and mentor a team of supply chain professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
  2. Provide guidance and support to team members, ensuring their professional development and growth
  3. Drive succession, talent management, training, and development within the team to ensure resource capability and business continuity
  4. Drive and coordinate cross-functional collaboration to align supply chain activities with overall business objectives

Financial Modeling:

  1. Strategically build and develop financial models to support supply chain initiatives and decision-making
  2. Analyse financial data to identify areas for cost savings and efficiency improvements

What are the requirements?

  1. Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field. A post graduate qualification is preferred. An MBA would be an added advantage
  2. A minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior supply chain management role
  3. 10 to 15 years of experience, with at least 5 in a leadership or management position
