A well-established engineering organisation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Civil Engineering Design Technologist / Technician to join their team.

This is a permanent position, requiring a minimum of 5+ years of experience in the field.

Flexi hours. Salary negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.

License / Certification: Registered ECSA as a Candidate Engineering Technician (Required). Labour Intensive Construction NQF level 5 or 7 (Bonus).

Min Requirements (These are non-negotiable):

  1. National Diploma in engineering, in a relevant discipline.
  2. Civil Designer, or Civil 3D, AutoCAD.
  3. Registration with ECSA as a Candidate (a Professional Engineering registration will be a bonus).
  4. 5+ years Experience Required.

About the position:

  3. To perform all work in accordance with the Company's Quality Management System (QMS), Policies and Standards.
  4. Supporting the engineering team on projects to complete the design work on time and within budget.
  5. Providing input and technical guidance to CAD designers / draughters and lower-level engineers / technologists / technicians working on the same project.
  6. Perform and check calculations, specify equipment, and solve complex engineering problems.
  7. Checking and verifying designs done by junior design team members.
  8. Assist with the preparation of technical proposals, feasibility studies, options analysis, and master planning.
  9. Managing and directing design teams.
  10. Act as design team leader on identified project components.
  11. Liaising with clients.
  12. Processing of survey and site investigation information.
  13. Application of general drawing control practices.
  14. Preparation of Bills of Quantities, cost estimates, and lifecycle costs.
  15. Develop and review specifications, including design criteria.
  16. Preparation of procurement documents.
  17. Formal report writing and professional presentation of work.
  18. Developing an understanding of industry codes and standards and client specifications and client expectations.
  19. Developing an understanding of relevant legislation and regulations.
  20. Compiling relevant project documentation.
  21. Analysing and suggesting solutions to moderately complex problems in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines.

Skills we require you to have:

  1. Computer literacy: AutoCAD, Civil Designer, MS Office.
  2. Excellent planning, organising and analytical skills.
  3. Excellent problem-solving skills.
  4. Good leadership skills.
  5. Excellent understanding of engineering concepts and application of knowledge.
  6. Good understanding of industry codes and standards.
  7. Good understanding of relevant legislation and regulations, including the HS Act and Construction Regulations and Environmental Management Act.
  8. Good understanding of at least two of the four primary General Conditions of Contract (GCC, FIDIC, NEC, JBCC).
  9. Good understanding of the OHS Act and Construction Regulations.
  10. Advanced project management skills, including project finance and project administration.
  11. Good technical report-writing skills.
  12. Ability to think critically and analytically.
  13. Ability to work accurately.
  14. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  15. Adaptability to a changing environment.
  16. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, management, clients, contractors, visitors, etc.
