We are looking for a Construction Buyer who has a minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role within a construction company. The successful candidate should have a sound knowledge of all construction materials, equipment and methods. Previous experience in estimating would be advantageous.

Our value chain entails the entire cycle from raw land, urban design, design of residential and non-residential buildings, as well as the construction of some of the projects with our own internal construction team.

Citra makes extensive use of new technologies. This applies to tools for architectural work, general working with cloud documents, all the way down to our own building technology that we continuously further develop and optimize.

Requirements
  • Matric
  • Have a National Diploma in Building or equivalent.
  • Have at least 5 years experience in a similar position in the construction industry. Preferably involved in large scale developments including freestanding houses, townhouses, and walk-up apartments.
  • Have a flexible and open attitude towards new ways of working.
  • Have strong organizational skills, able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Be able to take initiative in response to direction or instruction.
  • Have great interpersonal communication skills.
  • Own vehicle to do site visits and visit manufacturers and suppliers in the Cape Town area.
  • Have estimating and construction rate build up knowledge
  • Have experience in construction buying processes
Duties
  • Purchase goods, materials, components, or services in line with specified cost, quality, and delivery targets
  • Support the purchasing function and other relevant departments and communicate any supply problems which may impact business operations
  • Prepare reports and updates as and when required.
  • Assist with estimating as part of the tendering process in the department
  • Negotiate contracts, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers, review opportunities to make business savings utilizing negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods locally and internationally.
  • Prepare and raise purchase orders and order schedules.
  • Build, maintain, and manage supplier relationships and keep up good communications.
  • Conduct research for new components and suppliers.
  • Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery, or invoice issues.
  • Analytical, numerically astute with strong demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks and achieve set targets.
  • Commercial and financial awareness with a full understanding of how failure impacts production and construction programs
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Understand and analyze building plans.
  • Streamline, improve and document procurement processes
