AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  1. Provide design and technical consultation in stormwater drainage fields such as road drainage design, stormwater drainage systems, culvert design, flood line determination, erosion protection, and water sensitive urban design. You will be responsible for investigation, preliminary and detail design stages as well as technical reports such as hydrological studies and stormwater master and management plans.
  2. Develop and implement discipline specific technical practices, specifications, and procedures.
  3. Provide guidance, training, and feedback for the development of others.
  4. Work independently within the drainage engineering space on small and large sized projects and be a key member of larger multidisciplinary project teams, including investigation, design, analysis and modelling, technical documentation, cost estimates, tender submissions, and project scheduling.
  5. Engage with clients and subconsultants during the planning and execution of projects, including meetings and presentations.
  6. Provide specialist technical advice to clients.
  7. Comply with Company procedures and processes in terms of project registration and risk analysis.
  8. Ensure an auditable trail of actions during the full life cycle of project delivery process in accordance with company Quality Management Procedures.
  9. Embrace Health and Safety requirements in the workplace as well as on construction sites.

EDUCATION, LANGUAGE & QUALIFICATIONS

  1. B.Eng, B Sc Eng or B.Tech degree required, or equivalent combination of education and experience in stormwater drainage design.
  2. Professional registration or working towards professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa will be advantageous.
  3. Post-graduate qualification in Stormwater Engineering would be advantageous.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  1. Minimum 5 years of experience in stormwater drainage design is a requirement.
  2. Experience in managing large stormwater designs in multidisciplinary projects is required.
  3. Experience in hydrological studies, stormwater master and management plans and hydraulic design of stormwater structures/systems is required.
  4. Experience with one or more of the design software packages: Autodesk Civil3D, Civil Designer, HEC-RAS, SWMM.
  5. Experience in compilation of tender documentation, bill of quantities and cost estimates is required.
  6. Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  7. Good command of Microsoft Office package.
  8. Good presentation skills, with the ability to coach and motivate others.
  9. Strong interpersonal skills supporting collaborative working with colleagues.
  10. Problem-solving attitude with a high level of responsibility for assigned tasks and projects.
  11. Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to think strategically.
  12. Competency in engineering specialty area, project management, professional development, client service and leadership.
  13. Ability to meet deadlines and commitments, holding team accountable for team deadlines.
  14. Communicates clearly and effectively in one-on-one and group settings.
  15. Must possess a valid driver's licence and have own transport.
