Role Overview

A great career opportunity exists for a Cloud Architect in the Western Cape or Gauteng. The purpose of a Cloud Architect is to align the organisation's business strategy and objectives with its information technology infrastructure.

Being involved in the complete organisation's landscape, the Cloud Architect ensures that the organisation's systems, processes, and resources are effectively designed, implemented, and managed to support the overall business goals. In effect, the enterprise architect bridges the gap between business and technology, allowing the organisation to achieve its long-term goals by leveraging appropriate solutions.

Principle Accountabilities Include

Architecture functions:

  1. Analyse Santam business strategy and translate it into an IT strategy that supports the business vision.
  2. Design and develop enterprise-wide technology architectures that encompass various aspects, including business processes, applications, infrastructure, and security, with a focus on cloud solutions.
  3. Establish and enforce architecture and design governance processes, principles, and standards to ensure consistency, interoperability, and compliance across IT projects and systems.
  4. Oversee the alignment of IT initiatives with the enterprise architecture and facilitate decision-making regarding technology investments.
  5. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their requirements and constraints, effectively communicating the architectural vision and plans.
  6. Understand how business requirements can be met using available cloud solutions or define what additional solutions are needed.
  7. Evaluate cloud solutions, emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices to inform decision-making regarding technology adoption.
  8. Assess the impact of new cloud business solutions on the IT landscape, including technical due diligence.
  9. Work with Development Managers and other technical staff to ensure the application is implemented according to requirements.
  10. Identify potential risks/issues and provide input into the risk plan.
  11. Engage with technology partners to deliver integrated solutions across platforms.

Generic Functions

  1. Ensure that solution implementations are coherent and consistent with technology strategies, governance, and architecture.
  2. Provide advice and consultancy across the organisation on enterprise architecture matters.
  3. Participate in reviews and provide guidance to teams to ensure adherence to principles, architecture, and strategies.
  4. Establish and participate in design reviews and architectural reviews.
  5. Ensure that design is optimised for use on the specific cloud infrastructure.
  6. Support other members of the development team and business management team as required.
  7. Develop and maintain a deep understanding of cloud architectures and solutions.
  8. Work effectively in a team with other Enterprise Architects and Solution Architects to consider design alternatives and agree on appropriate design decisions.

Cloud Functions

  1. Establish and maintain the organisation's cloud architecture principles.
  2. Develop and maintain specific cloud architectures for major cloud providers – AWS, Azure, and any future providers.
  3. Calculate total cost of ownership options and advise on the best implementations.
  4. Accountable for establishing and maintaining Santam Group Logical cloud architecture.
  5. Accountable for establishing and maintaining Santam Group Cloud Platform architecture.
  6. Maintain and mature the architecture capability as per the Zachman framework.

Quality Assurance

  1. Ensure alignment of initiatives to the target cloud architecture and standards.
  2. Design and improve the Santam STS Enterprise Architecture Governance framework.
  3. Regulate and enforce adherence to the governance framework, focusing on cloud aspects.
  4. Review implementations to ensure correct interpretation of requirements and architecture.
  5. Facilitate and lead quality assurance processes for design and development.

QUALIFICATION

  1. BSc / BCom / BTech / BEng/ Honours with Information Systems or Business as a major.
  2. AWS Certified Solutions Architect (preferred) or Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Minimum 8 years of experience in technology roles.
  2. 3 years in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, or systems design at the enterprise level.
  3. 3 years of experience in IT architecture governance principles.
  4. 2 years of experience in cloud architecture and implementation on AWS (preferred), Azure, or both.
  5. Experience in cloud security concepts and cloud computing practices.
  6. Experience in hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
  7. Experience in providing cost estimates for cloud solutions.
  8. Understanding of Santam systems and software development experience is a benefit.
