Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Accomplish Project Objectives Under The Supervision Of The Lead Project Manager / Program Manager By Planning And Evaluating Project Activities For Operations Department Projects.

These May Vary In Both Size, Technical Scope And Complexity.

Projects Will Include But Are Not Limited To:
  1. Large custom client deployments, ranging from colocation deployments to entire DC hall deployments;
  2. Medium size customer deployments, where requested to assist the Solutions Architect and Service Management Team;
  3. Function as the on-site PM for the Service Delivery Managers on all Johannesburg based, non-standard deployments;
  4. Implementation of security solution projects including both biometric and CCTV;
  5. Office fitouts or upgrades;
  6. Implementation of IT projects, including cabling, access points, switching etc;
  7. Small to medium scale civil infrastructure projects;
  8. Small to medium scale mechanical and electrical infrastructure projects;
  9. Solar PV installation projects.
Main Functions Of The Job
  1. Assist the Lead Project Manager and participate in a number of different project activities.
  2. Collaborate with experienced engineers / professionals on various projects.
  3. Participate and facilitate project meetings with suppliers / sub-contractors.
  4. Ensure H&S standards are adhered to on all projects.
  5. Promote a safe working culture and environment.
  6. Work with the suppliers / sub-contractors to establish integrated project plans and ensure the suppliers / sub-contractors meet the agreed project quality and project timelines.
  7. Ensure that the project outcomes and requirements are adequately defined and that the needs of the users and all other stakeholders are fully and properly understood and accounted for.
  8. This includes a detailed analysis of contractual requirements, to ensure all obligations are met in project outcomes.
  9. Review and understand client standards and requirements, and ensure the project deliverables are delivered in compliance with these.
  10. Establish good working relationships with suppliers.
  11. Identify project risks and work with internal and external stakeholders in mitigating the project risks.
  12. Conduct project meetings with clients, and formally document decisions and agreed actions.
  13. Compile project documentation, including Microsoft Project Plan, Risk Register, Project Minutes / Action plans / Email trails.
  14. Retain a document repository for the project, based on the project scope and risk.
  15. Establish and communicate the overall budget and timescales for projects.
  16. Ensure purchase orders are raised and distributed appropriately.
  17. Ensure orders are placed with suppliers within required timeframes.
  18. Ensure quality, information security, environmental and energy management objectives and design considerations are implemented in all projects, and that scope and testing is compliant to the design standards and the management system objectives.

Qualifications And Experience:
  1. Technical qualification (e.g. BSc. Engineering);
  2. At least 2 years' experience in data centre operations or project management;
  3. Data Centre Certified Profession / Practitioner would be advantageous;
  4. Fair understanding related to most of the following but not limited to: Environmental monitoring; Generator deployment; UPS; LV / MLV; Fire systems; Cooling systems; Biometric and CCTV Security Solutions; Networking and switching projects.
  5. Experience in Integrated System Test;
  6. Microsoft Project experience;
  7. Driver's licence and own vehicle (note, the PM will be required to drive between JHB sites, as required).
