Job Description

The purpose of a SED Specialist - Community Development Projects role is to support and manage the planning, execution, and delivery of infrastructure projects.

This role ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to quality and safety standards. The work of the role is to apply deep technical expertise to analyse data, anticipate and diagnose problems, and provide solutions aimed at the improvement of processes, systems and work methods that meet internal and/or external customer requirements.

The role will primarily focus on the following key priorities:

  1. Oversee the planning and delivery of the project/scope of work assigned for the Community related projects in line with Venetia Mine Social and Labour plan (SLP)/Socio Economic Development commitments.
  2. Determine project goals and priorities with management program manager and/or project sponsors.
  3. Assist in determining priorities among project activities.
  4. Assist in effectively coordinating the activities of the team to meet project milestones.
  5. Assist in compiling a complete and accurate estimate of a project.
  6. Assist in managing the financial aspects of the project: budgeting, estimate to actual variance, capital project management, etc.
  7. Provide inputs when analyzing the actual performance against the plan and adjust consistent with plan objectives.
  8. Provide inputs into the development of the Social Performance programme including the Social Performance Strategy and Management Plans.
  9. Set-up required controls to ensure delivery against these standards and the objectives as defined in the project charter.
  10. Effective leadership of cross-functional teams in line with the Anglo-American and De Beers values.
  11. Determine an effective approach to completing the work.
  12. Assist in preparing the project plan and obtain management approval.
  13. Create a project charter with the team, including the definition of completion criteria.
  14. Develop and implement the Corporate Social Investment Plan requirement of the Social Way, including the Local Area Committee function, the Mine Community Development projects included in the mine's Social and Labour Plans and other social investment programmes in accordance with the Socio-economic needs identified during the SEAT process.
  15. Manage relationships with project stakeholders (internal and external clients).
  16. Provide support in resolving issues related to client relations, governmental relations, project quality, project risk, and project safety.

Qualifications

Recognised BTech Degree or an equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification (or higher) in a relevant field, such as Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. A project management qualification would be advantageous.

Technical Skills

  1. 3-5 years of practical experience in project implementation.
  2. Understanding of infrastructure development (e.g., roads, buildings, water reticulation, etc.).
  3. Experience with construction processes, design, and planning.
  4. Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  5. Knowledge of project management software (e.g., MS Project).
  6. Valid driver's license Code 08.

Project Management Skills

  1. Ability to plan, execute, and monitor infrastructure projects.
  2. Strong budgeting and cost control skills.
  3. Risk assessment and mitigation planning.
  4. Coordination with stakeholders, contractors, and government agencies.
  5. Reporting and documentation skills.
