Job Description

WSP is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join the Water Infrastructure and Design Division within the Mine Engineering Business Unit. This person will be responsible for the design, drawing and construction monitoring of infrastructure projects.

The duties and responsibilities are to include the design, drawing and construction monitoring of infrastructure projects which includes but may not be limited to:

  1. Pipelines and ancillaries design (e.g. scour, air valve, pipe supports etc.)
  2. Pipeline hydraulic modelling (e.g. pipeline sizing, water hammer, ensuring compliance with relevant design codes etc.)
  3. Open Channel Flow hydraulics
  4. Storm Water Designs
  5. Earthworks modelling in Civil 3D (e.g. stormwater drainage, platform and road layouts)
  6. Undertake planning, engineering design work with input to construction as required and as directed by Project Leaders or Engineers
  7. Ensure all designs and drawings are properly documented and checked
  8. Construction administration skills would be advantageous
  9. Attend site and other meetings, to action times timeously and effectively
  10. Achieve minimum financial productivity on all projects
  11. Ensure effective systems are implemented for good record keeping – files, reports, drawings, construction date etc.
  12. Liaise with other staff working on projects at all levels
  13. Assist with contract administration including preparation of certificates and "as built" drawings, construction dates etc.
  14. Ensure suitability of technical proposals
  15. Compile letters, reports and prepare tender documentation
  16. Provide service excellence
  17. Compliance with Quality Management System
  18. Contribution to efficiency and effectiveness of sector
  19. The candidate must be able to undertake and review associated works designs and demonstrate a sound technical knowledge of contract and construction procedures. (The candidate must demonstrate highly specialized design)
  20. The position is head office based, however the successful candidate must be prepared and free to travel extensively both within South Africa and within the African Continent to manage projects and engage in client and other meetings.

Qualifications
  1. BEng/BSc/BTech – Civil/Mechanical Engineer Degree
  2. Minimum 8-10 – years' experience minimum
  3. Professionally Registered will be an advantage
  4. Civil 3D and AutoCAD would be advantageous
  5. At least 6 years' experience with pipeline, pump station and storm water design within the consulting environment.
  6. Project and engineering management experience with relevant qualifications would be advantageous.
  7. KY-Pipe, EPANET, PC SWWM, HEC RAS, or Bentley simulation software will be an advantage
  8. MS Word, MS Excel (Advanced), MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS Projects
