Job Description

Due to the continuing success and growth of our team in South Africa, this fantastic opportunity has opened up at our award-winning specialist consultancy, engineering and advisory firm.

At AESG we are looking for a Principal Fire Engineer to support the Fire & Life Safety division and work alongside our other specialist disciplines. The role will be based in Cape Town, supporting the successful delivery of UK and international projects, working with and leading a project team of Engineers and Senior Consultants throughout all project phases, whilst also including project management of complex design and construction projects, covering all aspects of Fire Engineering.

Job Purpose:

  • Support the Fire & Life Safety division across the UK and the wider International market.
  • Assisting fire design service line, working alongside a team of designers and engineers.
  • Continuing the growth and development of our Fire & Life Safety offering to the UK and international markets
  • Carry out and review fire engineering calculations including smoke modelling and evacuation analysis from simple hand calculations to complex 3D computational modelling (previous CFD experience is welcome but not essential).
  • Inform and support the building design aspirations, functionality and architectural form throughout the design process
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise into key areas within proposals and tenders.
  • Attend meetings where required, updating project status and adjusting delivery models and schedules where appropriate.
  • Review project technical information to prepare fire strategies and provide on-going support from initial concept through to final completion
  • Bachelors Degree in Fire Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • Masters Degree in Fire Engineering preferred
  • Experience working for or in a Fire Consultancy.
  • Minimum of 8 (eight) years experience across fire engineering
  • Demonstratable design and engineering experience across major built environment projects.
  • Excellent technical knowledge in Fire Safety / Engineering within Residential, Commercial and Hotels sectors.
  • Understanding of Fire Engineering and interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process.
  • Able to take a brief from the project lead and deliver & control the tasks required.
  • Ability to collaborate with various parties to organise a completion of a full package of fire engineering tender intent documentation.
