This position reports to
Senior Engineering Manager

Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to act as a design authority for an engineering discipline with low to medium complexity. Each day, you will complete assignments on small projects or portions of larger projects in a cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by applying basic design thinking/design for excellence concepts in projects.

The work model for the role is: Hybrid

This role is contributing to the Energy Industries Business in Longmeadow.

You will be mainly accountable for:
  1. Evaluates, selects, and applies standard techniques and procedures to perform engineering assignments.
  2. Provides technical support for testing, installation, and commissioning activities.
  3. Prepares project documentation within one's scope of deliverables.
  4. Finalizes 'Fail-Safe Philosophy' and other key concepts as part of Kick-Off and Design.
  5. Actively participates in project meetings and resolves any outstanding technical issues to meet contractual obligations.
  6. Assists in preparing proposal/presentation of engineering projects/programs (provision of bills of materials, estimated engineering hours, etc.).
  7. Applies basic Design Thinking / Design for Excellence concepts in projects.
  8. Actively utilizes checklists to perform design verification according to applicable standards and engineering guidelines.
  9. Contributes and shares experiences in workshops pertaining to engineering design, tools, and processes.
  10. Shares best practices Lessons-Learned documentation across different projects and disciplines.
  11. Uses standard processes and tools applicable to one's area of responsibility.
  12. Ensures that engineering activities comply with required safety regulations and contractual requirements.
  13. Reports processes and tools inefficiencies and suggests improvements ideas.
  14. Supports technical risk assessments and implements resulting actions for one's projects.
  15. Reports any contract / safety / quality / program / cost issues to Project Manager(s) for resolution.
  16. Ensures Bill of Material (BOM) for the project meets contractual obligations and project gross margin requirements by not generating Project Left-Over Material (PLOM).
  17. Identifies and implements variation requests to support contract claims based on the approval from Project Manager.
  18. Follows work plans and cost estimates provided by the Project Manager and ensures quality deliverables on time and at targeted cost.
  19. Collaborates with the Supply Chain function and the Project Manager(s) to meet the contractual obligations.
  20. Coordinates with Manufacturing and Testing functions to ensure the technical solutions are appropriately manufactured/staged and tested.
  21. Updates the engineering deliverables as-built.
  22. Coordinates with Commissioning / Service functions to ensure the designs are appropriately installed and commissioned (if applicable as part of the contract).
  23. Updates the engineering deliverables post installation & commissioning (if applicable).
Qualifications for the role
  1. BSc or Bachelor of Technology Degree in Electrical/Light Current Engineering.
  2. 4+ years' experience in the field of Automation Engineering with extensive C&I experience in Power Generation & Water industry.
  3. 800xA and Symphony Plus will be advantageous.
  4. Professional registration with ECSA will be advantageous.
  5. Ability to understand and solve automation issues by fault finding.
  6. Root Cause Analysis.
  7. Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged candidates in line with the company's employment equity targets.
