About the job

  • The successful applicant will be appointed as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of a micro insurer and authorised financial services provider based in Cape Town, South Africa. The successful applicant will be reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Summary : Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement the overall IT strategy aligned with the organization's business goals.
  2. Ensure that technology initiatives support and enhance the overall business strategy.

Information Security

  1. Oversee the development and implementation of strategies to protect the organization's information assets. This includes cybersecurity measures, data privacy, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

IT Governance

  1. Establish and enforce IT policies, procedures, and standards.
  2. Ensure that IT practices align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  3. Provide guidance on IT governance to support overall corporate governance.

Digital Transformation

  1. Lead efforts to leverage technology for digital transformation. Identify opportunities to use technology to improve business processes, enhance customer experiences, and drive innovation.

User Support and Training

  1. Ensure that end-users receive adequate support and training to effectively use IT systems.
  2. Address user concerns and feedback to improve the overall user experience.

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery

  1. Develop and maintain plans to ensure business continuity in the event of IT disruptions or disasters.
  2. Implement strategies to minimize downtime and data loss.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BSc / BA in Computer Science or related field.
  2. 5 years as a CIO with strategic alignment.
  3. Minimum 3 years of leadership and managerial skills.
  4. Minimum 5 years IT work experience required.
  5. Computer literacy: Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel at an advanced level.
  6. Fluent and proficient in English, additional language(s) will be advantageous.

Skills and Competencies

  1. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with users and explain technical concepts in a clear manner.
  2. Function well under pressure, time management, problem-solving and creativity, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
  3. Ability to work independently as well as the ability to work well in a team and collaborate with other IT professionals.
  4. Function under pressure, have professional presentation and approach, detail oriented, high ethical standards, a desire to learn and the ability to work to strict deadlines.
