JSE listed corporate seeking a Data Science & Analytics Manager.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Degree (Honours, Masters or PHD) in quantitative fields such as Actuarial Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics and/or a combination of these.
  2. Proven expertise in data science technologies such as Python, PowerBI, Microsoft Azure, Spark, big data ecosystems, machine learning frameworks, and cloud infrastructure.
  3. 6+ years' experience in data science projects, including managing large-scale initiatives and leading multidisciplinary teams.
  4. Deep knowledge of Python or R and common analytics/ML libraries (NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, SciPy), as well as a proven track record using Jupyter notebooks.
  5. Strong SQL skills and experience with large, complex datasets are essential.
  6. Demonstrated ability to apply statistical machine learning techniques to predictive modelling, delivering measurable value.

Overview of Position

The Data Science & Analytics Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the company's data-driven strategy.

Working closely with the Chief Data Officer and the Head of Data Science, the manager will collaborate with business stakeholders to ensure that all data science, reporting, and analytics initiatives support the organization's vision.

Key Focus of the Role

  1. Build and lead a high-performing team of Data Scientists and Analytics professionals.
  2. Cross-Functional Partnership: Work seamlessly with business stakeholders, engineers, product managers, and other team members to ensure solutions are aligned with organizational goals.
  3. Keep up-to-date with emerging tools, methods, and best practices.
  4. Prioritize quantitative evidence and data-backed logic in shaping strategy and solutions.
  5. Ensure the integrity, quality, and reliability of data and models used.
  6. Break down complex challenges and leverage appropriate methodologies or technologies to tackle them effectively.
  7. Take responsibility for the accuracy, relevance, and robustness of delivered models and insights.
  8. Ensure that solutions are interpretable, explainable, and align with organizational and societal values.
