MSc Opportunity: A hydrodynamic evaluation of flotation in a custom flotation cell
The Centre for Minerals Research (CMR) in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Cape Town houses research in Comminution, Flotation and Process Mineralogy, offering a holistic and integrated view of minerals processing systems.
Maelgwyn South Africa provides specialised mineral processing technologies in the form of proprietary equipment and processes. To support the implementation of the Maelgwyn proprietary processing technologies and processes, a dedicated metallurgical laboratory was established in 2009 and has grown to support the industry as a commercial laboratory supplying from ad hoc test work to detailed bankable feasibility level studies and consulting.
An industrially funded postgraduate opportunity at the Masters' level is currently available based at Maelgwyn South Africa with registration and academic supervision from the CMR at UCT to work on a hydrodynamic evaluation of flotation in a custom flotation cell.
The successful applicant will work at Maelgwyn South Africa in Randburg under the supervision of Pierro Schoeman with academic supervision by Prof Kirsten Corin from the CMR at UCT.
Requirements:- B.Eng in Chemical Engineering (or related field) with a very good academic record.
- Experience in mineral concentration by flotation.
- Strong interest in minerals processing.
- The ability to learn independently and take initiative.
Conditions of bursary: Please note that postgraduate students are not appointed as employees and their bursaries are awarded tax-free. They are therefore not eligible for employee benefits. No relocation costs will be covered.
Applicants must submit a single PDF document comprising: CV, academic transcript, cover letter (briefly describing your interest in the project) and 3 references to Prof Kirsten Corin (Kirsten.Corin@uct.ac.za).
This position is reserved for South African citizens.
*The University of Cape Town and Maelgwyn South Africa reserve the right not to make an appointment for this position.
