LOCKSMITH Overview: A technician is required to install, adjust, repair, and open locks of all types and makes.

Duties:

  1. Rebuild, change, and service mechanical or electrical locks.
  2. Install security doors and maintain important parts of electric door systems.
  3. Advise people on the best measures to take in securing their offices/workplaces.
  4. Teach customers on the proper use of locks and keys and what to do if the locks are not working properly.
  5. Master and interpret Master keying guides; use knowledge of how locks work to interpret and preserve the integrity of an individual's or organization's master key system.
  6. Install, repair, change, and service locks and securities of all types as may be demanded by the individual or organization.
  7. Repair or change key combinations on safes.
  8. Create combinations for locks where there are no existing combinations or keys.
  9. Service and repair panic hardware on security doors.
  10. Maintain both mechanical and electronic key card systems in organizations.
  11. Issue keys to members of the organization and keep records of the keys issued and returned.
  12. Install and fix door hardware systems.
  13. Replace or service worn-out components of a door security system, including the lock, tumblers, springs, and other important parts.

Requirements:

  1. Grade 12 or equivalent; certification from a trade school or completion of apprenticeship is preferred.
  2. Proven work experience as a locksmith.
  3. Knowledge of different locks and keys and their mechanisms.
  4. Skills in using locksmith tools and machines.
  5. Good communication and customer service skills.
  6. Ability to solve complex problems and work under pressure.
  7. Valid driver's license.
  8. Clear criminal and credit record.
  9. Reside in the Eastern Cape (PE or East London preferred).
  10. Prepared to travel extensively.

Remuneration: Negotiable around R20k CTC.
