Job Purpose: The job purpose of the Academic Manager of Marketing Studies person involves several key responsibilities and requirements:
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Marketing or a related field; Doctorate preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in marketing, with at least 5 years in Academic programme management, and at least 5 years of lecturing experience.
- Proven management abilities with a track record of fostering collaboration and academic excellence.
- Strong communication skills and an understanding of the dynamic nature of the marketing industry.
- Strong industry connections within the Marketing field.
Leadership and Team Management:
- Oversee the recruitment and training of faculty specialising in Marketing, ensuring alignment with programme goals and institutional standards.
- Provide ongoing support and mentoring for the marketing faculty team, ensuring quality Learning and Teaching.
- Foster collaboration among lecturers, tutors, and faculty members to ensure a cohesive and effective teaching environment.
- Promote professional development among faculty, encouraging participation in conferences, skills development, and relevant industry events.
- Manage the implementation of learning and teaching strategies and quality assurance procedures.
Teaching Excellence:
- Ensure the marketing curriculum is taught to students to reflect industry trends and best practices.
- Collaborate with Programme Coordinators to implement cutting-edge marketing teaching methodologies and strategies.
- Oversee the delivery of lectures and tutorials, ensuring adherence to high academic standards and the effective use of teaching aids.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of teaching methods and learning outcomes, implementing improvements as necessary.
Student Result Monitoring:
- In collaboration with the Programme Coordinators, track and enhance student results for the campus, within the Marketing Management programmes, implementing strategies to address areas of underperformance.
- Lead Learning and Teaching interventions to improve student learning, focusing on addressing challenges unique to marketing students.
- Work closely with the Librarians to ensure the quality of resources and librarian support is tailored to the needs of Marketing Management students, setting them up for academic success.
- Manage the Study Success Coaches to enhance students' study skills, thereby boosting their overall success in the Marketing Management programmes.
Industry Engagement:
- Coordinate regular opportunities for students to engage with the Marketing industry to provide an immersive experience to the world of work within Marketing.
Academic Engagement:
Build relationships with other higher education marketing faculties/ departments/ schools (collegiately).
Administrative and Operational Excellence:
- Develop, publish and maintain lecture and tutorial timetables.
- Manage academic schedules, ensuring proper allocation of resources and faculty availability for marketing programmes and modules.
- Ensure the effective implementation of the lecture and tutorial attendance system and ensure all records are updated daily.
- Maintain comprehensive records of academic performance, curriculum changes, and faculty development activities.
- Support the implementation of institutional policies related to marketing education and ensure adherence to quality assurance measures.
Research and Professional Development:
- Encourage and support faculty research within the field of marketing, ensuring alignment with institutional research goals.
- Contribute to the overall advancement of the marketing program by promoting the development of marketing-related research, case studies, and publications.
- Lecture (Preferably Head Lecturer) one module.
Institutional Committees:
- The incumbent will serve on the following committees (but not limited to):
- Community Engagement Committee.

- Ability to engage with lecturers and implement strategies to improve the quality of the lecturer's academic delivery.
- Strong organisational skills, including resource allocation and academic scheduling.
- Ability to promote and support faculty research and professional development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster a positive academic environment.
