Instrument Mechanician (relocation to The Netherlands)

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Instrumentation Mechanician to join our team in the petrochemical industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and calibrating instrumentation and control systems to ensure optimal plant performance, safety, and compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance, fault-finding, and repair of instrumentation and control systems, including pressure, flow, temperature, and level measurement devices.
  • Install, calibrate, and configure field instruments, PLCs, DCS, and SCADA systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure equipment reliability.
  • Interpret and update P&IDs, loop drawings, and schematics.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards and regulations.
  • Work closely with engineers, operators, and maintenance teams to optimize plant processes.
  • Document maintenance activities and prepare reports as required.
  • Provide technical support and guidance on instrumentation-related issues.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Trade Test Certificate as an Instrumentation Mechanician. Sasol background is preferred.
  • National Diploma (N3-4) or equivalent in Instrumentation, Electrical, or a related field (advantageous).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in instrumentation maintenance within the petrochemical or related industry.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial process control systems, PLCs, and SCADA systems.
  • Experience with hazardous area equipment and intrinsic safety principles.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of instrumentation failures.
  • Familiarity with SAP or other computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and technical accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.
