About the Role

Our client is seeking a dynamic Lead Drilling Fluids Engineer to manage and direct their drilling fluids operations in the Soweto vicinity. This is a critical on-site position, requiring hands-on involvement and oversight of all aspects related to drilling fluid systems. You will be responsible for designing drilling fluid programs, ensuring optimal fluid properties, managing inventory, and troubleshooting any issues that arise on the rig site. Your leadership and expertise in drilling fluid technology will be essential for safe, efficient, and cost-effective drilling operations, directly contributing to project success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage drilling fluid programs for various well types and geological conditions.
  • Supervise and train drilling fluids personnel on site, ensuring adherence to best practices and safety standards.
  • Monitor drilling fluid properties and performance, making necessary adjustments to optimize operations.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for drilling fluid-related problems, such as lost circulation, wellbore instability, and formation damage.
  • Manage inventory and logistics for drilling fluid additives and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations related to drilling fluids operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in drilling fluids engineering , with a proven track record of successful field operations.
  • Extensive knowledge of drilling fluid chemistry, rheology, and solids control.
  • Experience with various drilling fluid systems (e.g., water-based, oil-based, synthetic-based).
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a demanding, on-site operational environment.
