Winder Technician required for a mine in Brits.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Grade 12 and/or N6
  • Attended courses on the winder safety circuits and the general operating principles of Winders.
  • Certificated Trade Apprenticeship with a relevant certification body
  • Completed trade apprenticeship in electronics repair for communications, instrumentation.
  • A valid SA driver's license
  • Knowledge of Winder PLCs
  • An Electrical Trade certificate will be advantageous.
  • Three to Five years' experience working on Winders.
  • Able to work on the Scada system comprising of conveyor belts and pumping system.
  • Capable of working independently on the Engineering stations for Winder and on various Programs

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Adhere to site's Environmental Management Plan
  • Conduct periodic audits of all winder instrumentation, communications and control refurbishment, later maintenance.
  • Conduct reviews of the refurbishment, later maintenance, of the winder CIC equipment to identify actions for continuous improvement.
  • Execute refurbishment, later maintenance, work checks on a routine scheduled basis. This includes visual checks, infrared data collection, ultrasonic data collection, motor current and flux data collection, simple NDT data collection, verification of output within calibration and specification.
  • Analyze and trend predictive maintenance data (vibration, IR, etc.) to determine plant condition and report this condition for action.
  • Monitor general physical condition of winder CIC assets and report.
  • Monitor preventive and corrective actions as necessary.
  • Execute repair work, where appropriate, on winder instrumentation, communication, and control equipment.
  • Generate work requests as required for refurbishment/maintenance, repair planning and scheduling.
  • Ensure routine condition monitoring tasks are performed on all the rotating equipment by data collection using advanced portable data collectors and other tools according to the established schedules and as per the plant requirements.
  • Gather information on vibration & other data collected to diagnose / troubleshoot rotating machinery problems.
  • Actively participate in maintenance review programmes and Root Cause Failure Analysis process of winder CIC equipment as per requirements.
  • Report directly to the Section Engineer on issues and identify and execute improvement projects.
  • Sound planning (time management), and organisational abilities.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize.
  • Good customer and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to function on your own and within a team.
  • Independent, self-motivated, proactive thinking.
  • Ability to communicate in English (written & verbal) and one other official language.
