What will you do?

  1. Implement new databases in line with design specifications, including the installation of DBMS.
  2. Design supporting processes to ensure a functioning database (e.g., user access, performance monitoring, backup, replication, patching).
  3. Troubleshoot incidents and events up to the second level.
  4. Escalate performance, security, or availability issues as necessary.
  5. Engage with database vendors to troubleshoot urgent or complex incidents.
  6. Define, create, and maintain client application database structures.
  7. Ensure data recoverability, database availability, data integrity, agreed levels of performance, and capacity planning for physical databases.
  8. Research emerging trends, functionality, and architecture related to the DBMS.
  9. Maintain and update maintenance plans and documentation at least quarterly or after significant changes.
  10. Enhance and improve database support processes.
  11. Plan and implement DBMS upgrades.
  12. Assist in developing the roadmap for future DBMS enhancements.
  13. Provide feedback to clients on improvements in database design, usage, and work practices.
  14. Create database scripts to assist in database operation.
  15. Troubleshoot security administration components, including LDAP and Kerberos.
  16. Manage user and security administration on the DBMS, including user creation and role assignment, password resets, and account management.
  17. Create and modify security roles and analytical privileges.
  18. Review and troubleshoot security issues and user privileges.
  19. Design and execute processes to promote code and structures between databases in line with SDLC and company policies.
  20. Create and execute instructions for data refresh in Dev and QA databases.
  21. Design and set up monitoring tools for the DBMS.
  22. Support application development teams in configuring databases for optimal performance and security.

Knowledge and Skills

  1. Proficiency in MS SQL Server, including understanding SQL Server 2019 and SQL 2012-2019.
  2. Knowledge of general database concepts and SQL's usage of underlying infrastructure.
  3. Familiarity with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and Database Mirroring.
  4. Knowledge of SQL integration with REST, SOAP, ODBC, JDBC, ODBO, and other MSSQL-supported connectors.
  5. Strong analytical skills to assess and interpret data.
  6. Comprehensive understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  7. Expertise in managing database security and permissions.
  8. Ability to identify and mitigate risks associated with database management.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Matric.
  2. BSc in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or relevant DBA certifications.
  3. Proven experience as a SQL Database Administrator with a solid background in MS SQL Server.
