Job purpose: The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a competent individual to assist the regional librarian in providing a service to affiliated public libraries in the region.

Minimum requirements: Grade 12 (Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification); A valid (Code B or higher) driving licence. NB: People with disabilities that restrict driving abilities, but who have reasonable access to transport, may also apply.

Recommendations: Relevant exposure/experience in a library environment.

Key performance areas:

  1. Administrative support to the region and affiliated public libraries;
  2. Provide asset control support services;
  3. Provide personnel administration support services within the office;
  4. Provide financial administration support services in the regional office.

Competencies:

  1. Knowledge of Computerised Library Management system (LIMS);
  2. Asset control;
  3. Skills in written and verbal communication;
  4. Computer skills in MS Office Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc);
  5. Planning and organising;
  6. Interpersonal relations;
  7. Teamwork;
  8. Clerical skills.

Remuneration: R 216 417 - R 254 928 per annum (Salary Level 5). Note on remuneration: in addition, service benefits or obligations for qualifying employees (medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc) are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.

Notes: Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit documentation for verification purposes and criminal record vetting. These candidates will be required to do a practical and attend interviews on a date and time determined by the department and may also be required to undergo competency assessments/proficiency tests.
