Primary Purpose:

  • Perform mechanical repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of vehicles. Work on projects assigned.
  • Follow established procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and maintain safari vehicles, ensuring they are always in top condition.
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on all lodge equipment.
  • Manage a team of assistant mechanics, providing guidance and training.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and implement timely repairs.
  • Maintain a detailed log of all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Perform welding and minor bodywork.
  • Service vehicles according to the established preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Rotate and balance tires; change oil and filters; lubricate vehicle parts; inspect and replace hoses, belts, mirrors, lamps; and maintain all fluid levels.
  • Inspect vehicles and evaluate the condition of systems, equipment, accessories, and lights; service as needed.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the general manager immediately.
  • Keep equipment and tools in safe operating condition.
  • Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably with experience in off-road and 4x4 vehicles.
  • Two years of experience as a mechanic.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks in a remote setting.
  • Certification in automotive repair or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs.
  • Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts.
  • Ability to pass required bus driver safety training.
