Toolmaker (CONTRACT)

My client in the manufacturing / automotive industry is seeking to employ a Toolmaker on CONTRACT basis.

Duties include:

• This position will be an integral part of the maintenance team and will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of press tools and other equipment
• Repair and maintain press tools
• Routine servicing and regrinding of tools
• Attend breakdowns, identify faults and problem solve at the press with minimal downtime to assist production
• Evaluate each job and determine if it can be repaired in press or must be removed to Tool Room for essential maintenance and repair work
• Estimate length of time required to complete a job and likely consequences of failure to complete work within required timelines
• Report breakdowns, root causes and equipment faults to management
• Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
• Support new project tooling from commissioning stages through to start of production
• Manufacture new tooling and ancillary spares to support production activity and customer deadlines
• Carry out engineering level changes to tools and modifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Matric/ Grade 12 or equivalent
• Qualified Toolmaker with 3 years qualified experience
• Previous experience in a metal processing environment will be advantageous
• Understanding of manufacturing processes
• Understanding of Lean manufacturing
• Strong fault-finding skills.
• Must be able to read technical, electrical and mechanical drawings.
• Must be qualified to work at heights.
