Financial Controller / Chief Financial Officer (CFO) - Banking

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity exists for a Financial Controller looking to move into a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role. This role is pivotal in shaping financial strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving business growth through sound financial management. This is a great position for someone who is ready to take that next step into a CFO role.

As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the CFO will provide strategic direction, oversee financial planning and analysis, and ensure strong governance in alignment with international and local financial regulations. The role also encompasses leadership of the finance team to ensure operational excellence and financial sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute financial strategies to drive sustainable business growth.
  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and treasury management.
  • Ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), PNG Taxation Laws, IPA, Companies Act, and banking prudential standards.
  • Oversee risk management, financial reporting, internal controls, and external audits.
  • Provide strategic financial insights to support executive decision-making.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team.
  • Manage relationships with regulators, financial institutions, and external auditors.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and statutory compliance.
  • Support business growth initiatives, including potential capital raising or stock exchange listing.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, policies, and systems.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; an MBA is highly regarded.
  • Professional qualification such as CPA, CA, or CFA is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in financial leadership roles, in banking, finance, or Lending.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, PNG financial regulations, taxation laws, and risk management.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement financial strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop finance professionals.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Previous experience in the Pacific region or a developing country is highly regarded.

This is a key strategic role with full commercial oversight, based in Port Moresby .
