Engineering Manager – Lead the architecture and delivery of a global consumer-facing platform for the leading health-tech organisation globally – Cape Town, R2M This is an excellent opportunity for an Engineering Manager to take ownership of the mobile platform and backend systems of one of the most established international wellness brands. You will lead the team responsible for a global consumer app used across multiple regions, shaping the technical roadmap and ensuring high standards of engineering quality, reliability and performance. This Engineering Manager position is based in Cape Town with a hybrid onsite model. This role is paying between R1.8M – R2M. THE COMPANY The leading international health-tech organisation operating across South Africa, the UK, Europe, Asia and Australia. The business is consolidating its mobile and backend engagement services into a central engineering function that owns the core consumer app used globally. They are modernising their digital ecosystem to deliver faster releases, architectural consistency and scalable, high-quality experiences across markets. The engineering culture is collaborative, quality-driven and structured around real-time communication and aligned decision-making. THE ROLE As the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the digital transformation of this health-tech’s consumer-facing platforms across mobile and web applications. You will lead the architecture, design and development of the organisation’s mobile app and backend integration services. You will guide engineers to deliver high-quality, reliable software and drive end-to-end technical delivery, ensuring each release aligns with broader product and business goals. You will review designs, contribute to architectural decisions for scalability and maintainability, and ensure high standards of code quality, system reliability and security. You will also oversee CI/CD, testing, monitoring, post-mortems and continuous improvement initiatives, managing timelines, resourcing and trade-offs across multiple projects. You will work closely with Product Managers, Designers and business stakeholders to define technical priorities, align roadmaps and communicate progress, risks and dependencies. THE REQUIREMENTS A bachelor’s degree in computer science or relevant field, or equivalent experience. Eight years software engineering experience, including three years in engineering management or technical leadership. Strong technical background in mobile development, either native or cross platform. Experience designing and integrating mobile applications with backend services, internal APIs and third-party systems. Proficient in cloud technologies, ideally Azure. Strong understanding of application architecture, system design, scalability and performance optimisation. Experience building or managing RESTful services and mobile-first APIs. Experience leading distributed or outsourced engineering teams. Strong communication, debugging and problem-solving skills.
