Senior Research Specialist – HSRC (Human Sciences Research Council) Within the Africa, BRICS and the Global South Division (ABGS), the Africa Institute of South Africa (AISA) leads and coordinates the HSRC’s engagements in Africa. It acts as a catalyst for research and implementation support across the African continent. AISA undertakes basic, applied policy‑relevant and comparative research, builds capacity, and provides policy advice to advance HSRC’s Africa Research Partnership and Collaboration Strategy and related frameworks. Position : Senior Research Specialist (SRS) Location : Pretoria, South Africa Employment type : Full‑time, Permanent Contract Overview The role focuses on the theme: Good Governance, Human Rights and the Rule of Law. The candidate should have a background in humanities and social sciences, demonstrate the use of technology, and apply a multi‑disciplinary approach to research. The position may require working outside South Africa as per AISA’s mandate. Responsibilities Lead and coordinate research projects on Good Governance, Human Rights and the Rule of Law. Collaborate with national, continental, and international governments, multilateral institutions, research institutes, universities, and civil society organisations. Provide policy advice and implementation support in line with HSRC’s strategic objectives. Build capacity and support training programmes for stakeholders. Prepare and present research findings, reports, and policy briefs. Facilitate knowledge sharing and contribute to HSRC’s research publications. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in humanities, social sciences, or related field. Strong research skills and experience in policy‑relevant studies. Proficiency in digital tools and technology for research. Ability to develop multi‑disciplinary research approaches. Experience working in an international or cross‑border context is an asset.
