About the Role
Our client, a renowned engineering consultancy specializing in building services for critical facilities, is seeking an experienced Senior MEP Engineer to lead projects in Polokwane, Limpopo. This role focuses on the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems for complex healthcare projects, including hospitals and clinics. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of MEP design principles, system integration, and the specific requirements of healthcare environments. You will be responsible for overseeing the design, coordination, and implementation of MEP systems, ensuring they meet stringent performance, safety, and regulatory standards. This is a crucial position contributing to the development of vital healthcare infrastructure in the Limpopo province, ensuring high standards of comfort, safety, and operational efficiency through expert construction and engineering oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and specification of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems for healthcare facilities.
- Ensure MEP designs comply with healthcare-specific standards, building codes, and regulations in South Africa.
- Coordinate MEP designs with architectural and structural elements using BIM and other relevant software.
- Manage MEP project lifecycles, including planning, budgeting, tendering, and site supervision.
- Oversee the installation and commissioning of MEP systems, ensuring quality and performance.
- Conduct site inspections and troubleshoot any MEP-related issues during construction.
- Collaborate with clients, healthcare professionals, contractors, and other consultants.
- Provide technical expertise and mentorship to junior MEP engineers and technicians.
- Perform load calculations, energy analysis, and system performance evaluations.
- Review shop drawings, submittals, and contractor proposals related to MEP works.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) registration with ECSA is required.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in MEP engineering, with a significant focus on healthcare facility projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in HVAC, electrical power distribution, emergency systems, medical gas systems, and plumbing.
- Proficiency in MEP design software (e.g., Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, IES VE) and BIM coordination.
- Thorough understanding of healthcare facility operational requirements and compliance standards.
- Strong project management and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Experience in managing consultants and contractors in a construction environment.
- Must be based in or willing to relocate to Polokwane.
