About the Company NWU Introduction North-West University (Potchefstroom Campus) Faculty of HumanitiesPosition Number: P Vacancy: Junior Lecturer PEROMNES Grade: A9Employment Type: Fixed Term Appointment (One Year) Job Description Purpose of the Position The School of Communication at the NWU (Potchefstroom Campus) has one vacancy for a Junior Lecturer (in a one‑year fixed term appointment) in the vibrant and dynamic field of Graphic Design with specialisation in Design. Key Responsibilities Teaching and Learning: Relevant degree or 4‑year honours degree with significant industry experience Authority to teach and develop Multimedia Design modules, from first to fourth year level Ability to utilise research in the guidance and facilitation of first to fourth year graphic design projects Knowledge of theoretical and practical expertise in graphic design Understanding of the broader visual communications industry Computer literacy in the most recent version of Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud: Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Audition, Character Animate; Blender/Cinema 4D/Maya Proficiency in motion graphics, interaction design and videography Proficiency within an Apple MAC Studio environment Ability to liaise with industry and the public as needed Ability to secure industry and/or community projects for collaboration Ability to organise projects outside the scope of teaching to enrich the teaching and learning environment for the subject group Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally within the multi‑lingual environments of the NWU Curriculum Development: Contribute to curricular revision to reflect the latest trends in the field and to build and expand the subject group Scholarly Work: Participation in research projects with colleagues Study Guidance: Provide study guidance support to students in their final year of study Administration and Other Tasks: Responsible for all administrative tasks related to the above Study guide development and update Student marks and assessment Share responsibility for committee and department assignments as required Participate in services related to the life of the School and the community Minimum Requirements Four‑year degree/Honours Degree in Graphic Design with a special interest/specialising in motion graphics and interaction design Experience in teaching and learning to undergraduate and postgraduate students with a four‑year degree/ honours degree in graphic design Practical experience as a graphic designer demonstrated through a portfolio of evidence (must be included with application) Functional / Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills) Within higher education environments Within industry‑related environments Sound understanding of the broad graphic design discipline, motion graphics and interaction design Behavioural Competencies Team player within groups Sound relations with colleagues Able to work independently Ethical Principles Ethical principles are upheld in all aspects of teaching, research, and service.
