About the Role
Our client requires a meticulous Hygiene Officer to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation within their Durban -based food production facility. This critical role focuses on implementing, monitoring, and enforcing hygiene protocols to prevent contamination and ensure food safety compliance. You will work closely with production, quality assurance, and maintenance teams to uphold rigorous hygiene standards throughout the facility. This position demands a strong understanding of food safety regulations, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to drive continuous improvement in hygiene practices, safeguarding product integrity and regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive hygiene management systems and cleaning schedules.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of production areas, equipment, and staff practices to ensure compliance.
- Monitor and control the use of cleaning chemicals and disinfectants, ensuring correct application and storage.
- Investigate and report on any hygiene-related non-conformances or incidents.
- Provide training to staff on hygiene best practices, food safety, and proper sanitation procedures.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and third-party auditors during inspections.
Requirements
- Relevant qualification or certification in food safety, microbiology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Hygiene Officer in the food manufacturing industry.
- In-depth knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and other relevant food safety standards.
- Strong understanding of microbial control, sanitation chemicals, and cleaning validation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous approach.
- Proficiency in conducting audits and developing corrective action plans.
