About the Role
Our client, a reputable aviation services provider, is looking for a proactive and experienced Aviation Safety Officer to enhance flight operations safety in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. This pivotal role involves developing, implementing, and managing safety management systems (SMS) to ensure compliance with all relevant aviation regulations and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of flight operations, risk management, and safety investigation procedures. You will play a key role in fostering a robust safety culture across the organization, contributing to the prevention of incidents and accidents. This is a critical position for maintaining the highest standards of safety in a dynamic flight environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the organization's Safety Management System (SMS).
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments of flight operations and ground handling procedures.
- Investigate aviation safety occurrences, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs to flight and ground crew.
- Monitor aviation regulatory changes and ensure organizational compliance.
- Promote a positive safety culture through proactive engagement and communication.
- Maintain safety-related records and documentation.
- Prepare safety performance reports for senior management.
- Liaise with aviation authorities and other stakeholders on safety matters.
- Manage the incident reporting system and follow up on corrective actions.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in aviation safety management, flight operations, or a related field.
- A strong understanding of Safety Management Systems (SMS) principles and application.
- Knowledge of South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) regulations and ICAO standards.
- Experience in safety investigation and root cause analysis techniques.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in using safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Aviation Management, Safety, or a related discipline is highly desirable.
- Must be a resident of or eligible to work in South Africa.
