About Santam Santam’s Operations division within Santam Broker Solutions currently offers an exciting opportunity for a Technical Underwriting Support Manager. This role maintains the integrity of Commercial Underwriting skills and protocols within Operations, working closely with senior commercial underwriters in the Operations Commercial Underwriting Technical team and the broader Operations channels. Location Belville or Johannesburg (JHB) Closing Date 24 November 2024 What will make you successful? The ideal candidate will be able to: Build and maintain role mandate requirements. Support line managers with development journeys aligned to role mandate requirements. Track and report on Commercial mandate gaps and progress. Track and report on Commercial skill gaps derived from BAU processes such as QA and TQA trend insights. Engage in structured engagements with development support stakeholders in Operations and the broader SBS business to build underwriting skill. Define and maintain Commercial referral processes across the available mandate spectrum in conjunction with relevant Operations channels. Review and audit underwriting decisions and processes against potential exposures in Commercial Operations due to skill or process gaps. Collaborate with stakeholders to identify skills requirements within the underwriting domain to future‑proof business underwriting needs. Qualifications and Experience Minimum of 10 years’ insurance industry experience with meaningful exposure to commercial underwriting. Santam Commercial product training (advantageous). People management experience (advantageous). Experience in developing skills or training programmes (advantageous). Knowledge and Skills Computer literate; proficient in MS Office, especially Excel, and competent in navigating AI applications like Copilot. Commercial underwriting knowledge required. Exceptional customer‑service orientation. Strong coaching and leadership skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Competencies Analytical and conceptual thinking.
