About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated Application Security Specialist to enhance the security of their software development lifecycle in Paarl . This role focuses on integrating security practices into the development process, identifying and remediating vulnerabilities in applications, and promoting a secure coding culture. You will work closely with software developers, quality assurance teams, and product managers to ensure that applications are designed, built, and deployed securely. The ideal candidate is passionate about secure software development and possesses a strong understanding of common web and mobile application vulnerabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct security reviews of application source code, APIs, and system designs.
- Perform static (SAST) and dynamic (DAST) application security testing, and guide remediation efforts.
- Develop and maintain secure coding guidelines and provide training to development teams.
- Integrate security tools and processes into the CI/CD pipeline to automate security checks.
- Investigate and respond to security vulnerabilities reported in applications and their dependencies.
- Advise development teams on secure design principles and threat modeling for new features and applications.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in application security , secure software development, or a related security role.
- Strong understanding of common web application vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10) and their mitigation.
- Experience with SAST, DAST, and IAST tools, as well as manual code review techniques.
- Familiarity with secure coding practices and security frameworks.
- Knowledge of common programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript) and their security implications.
