Senior Software Engineer I – LexisNexis Location: Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. Overview Senior Software Engineer I responsible for complex research, design, and software development within a product line, contributing directly to project plans, schedules, and methodology. Responsibilities Mentor more junior team members. Translate user/customer requests into solutions. Interface with technical personnel to finalize requirements. Write and review specifications for complex components. Complete complex bug fixes. Collaborate with development teams to understand product requirements. Implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews. Operate in Agile and Waterfall environments with stakeholders. Resolve complex technical issues as needed. Train entry‑level software engineers. Keep abreast of new technologies. Design and work with complex data models. Mentor less‑senior developers on methodologies and optimization. Qualifications 5+ years of software engineering experience. BS in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent. Technical Skills Advanced knowledge of software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall). Proficiency in data manipulation languages and optimization. Understanding of normalized/dimensional data modeling principles. Knowledge of multiple data storage subsystems. Expertise in programming languages: Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, C/C++, HTML, XML, SQL, Windows, UNIX, .Net. Strong research skills. Industry best practices in development. Toolset development knowledge. Test‑driven development knowledge. Strong oral and written communication skills.
