Study Coordinator

The University of Cape Town Lung Institute requires applications for a Study Coordinator on a Fixed Term Contract to work on for the MRC Unit on Child and Adolescent Health. The MRC Unit is an accredited research unit established to undertake research in key areas of child health of major importance in low- and middle- income settings, including pneumonia, tuberculosis (TB), HIV-associated illness, asthma, and developmental origins of health. Research focuses on the epidemiology, aetiology and risk factors for health or disease and the impact of acute disease on child health, with a focus on lung health. A strong focus is on building research capacity, technology transfer and development of clinician scientists in South Africa and Africa to undertake translational research that will impact on child health. This position is based at Red Cross Children's Hospital at the Research Centre for Adolescent & Child Health (REACH) at the Red Cross Children's Hospital (RXH), Cape Town, South Africa, and will support the MRC Unit Project Manager in areas of project administration and coordination. Minimum Requirements Tertiary degree in a health‑related field, specifically Health Science or Social Science or related field 1‑3 years Project Coordination or management experience (including SOP development, CRF development and quality control oversight) Experience working in a research environment and / or clinical research environment Experience managing research grants, grant applications and proposals (e.g. budget development, coordinating investigator input, assisting to draft and format grant applications and grant reporting) Good computer skills, proficient with MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) Good decision making, problem solving and prioritising capabilities Verbal, written and reading fluency in English Advantageous Skills Experience in planning and implementing a clinical research study Managing HR issues in a diverse team Attention to detail Good interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work independently as well as within a team Experience with Redcap CRF development and reporting Experience with data cleaning, preparation and analysis, collating or summarising data or quality control indicators and producing basic data analysis for reporting, presentations and publications Responsibilities Coordination of study wide activities alongside Project Manager and Data Manager Assist with preparation and drafting of reports Drafting of study wide SOPs, training materials and PowerPoint presentations Coordination of Redcap CRF development, implementation and QC of data collection processes across site activities Assist with tracking HR deadlines, processes and ad hoc paperwork Tracking of study wide documents (funding, collaborations, publications, ethics approvals) Assist with scheduling and catering for meetings Taking minutes for a variety of study and stakeholder meetings Other ad hoc duties as they arise Additional Information 12-month Fixed Term Contract Full-Time (40 hours per week; Monday to Friday) This position is based at Red Cross Memorial Hospital Closing Date : 21 November Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
