Associate Privacy Counsel

Associate Privacy Counsel (Full Time, Remote Position) VeraSafe is an innovative and successful U.S. headquartered privacy and cybersecurity compliance consulting firm and law firm. Due to rapid growth and increased demand for our international privacy and technology compliance and legal services, VeraSafe is seeking creative, motivated, and collaborative attorneys to join our team, regardless of prior work experience or education background. This is a fully remote position and will remain a fully remote position. VeraSafe frequently hires for attorney and consultant positions on a rolling basis. We are growing rapidly and seek to proactively build a strong talent pool to meet sustained, increasing client demand. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to join a team working on the cutting edge of privacy and data protection, and who wants to further develop a practice in an in‑demand, high‑tech area of law. We are inundated with business from clients who love the way we advise on privacy compliance (hence the need for you). We have found our strongest team members don’t necessarily have prior experience in privacy law. You’ll begin with a robust and established onboarding and training process. We typically advance people more quickly than your typical law firm, and we do it on an individual basis (no lockstep promotions or compensation). Note: There is a 1-3 hour skills assessment associated with the recruitment for this position. We know this is a burden, but we think it’s worth it, and we appreciate you taking the time to complete it. We’ve found it enables us to find the best attorneys, regardless of their experience, where they went to law school, or where they were trained. We want smart, kind, creative lawyers, plain and simple, and this assessment is a crucial part of our ability to hire this way. We are not your typical legal job. We use project managers to keep our remote team organized and our projects streamlined and on‑track. We encourage our team members to travel and to make use of our ability to work as digital nomads, whether that means spending a few months abroad or on extended trips to be near family. We collaborate closely (you won’t feel like you’re working in isolation) and we actively encourage sharing of credit for work well done, resources, and advice (and penalize the reverse). We are not biglaw. We do top‑notch work for interesting clients, yet we pride ourselves on our team members being happy, with time and energy for a life outside of work, which we believe makes us better attorneys who don’t burn out. The bottom line: If you want to learn or go deeper practicing privacy law, if you want to practice in a problem‑solving environment focused on giving excellent and yet actionable advice, if you want to work with a global team of friendly, brilliant people, if you want the flexibility to work in a way that makes sense to you, please apply Responsibilities Include: Assessing client information systems for compliance with data protection laws and regulations Drafting data protection agreements, addenda, and amendments Advising clients on privacy‑related product improvements Researching legal issues and composing legal opinions/memoranda Writing privacy law related articles and blog posts Assisting in the development of in‑house legal templates Contributing to the development of internal procedures and methodologies Collaborating with a team of intellectual peers who value cooperation and community What We Need From You Need to Have: License to practice law (active and in good standing) in your jurisdiction At least three years of post‑qualifying experience An interest in privacy and technology Team player, interested in contributing to a growing enterprise Strong writing/editing skills and attention to detail Ability to work remotely Willingness to learn new skills and receive direction and feedback from partners Willingness to pursue privacy certifications (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM) Willingness to work occasional evenings; primarily for full team meetings, happy hours, etc. Nice to Have: Previous contract drafting and negotiation experience strongly preferred Experience/training in privacy law Privacy certifications of some kind (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPP/US, specialty from law school, etc.) Professional involvement in the privacy and/or data security space (attendance at privacy conferences; membership or publication in the IAPP, etc.) Detail‑oriented and highly organized with a strong work ethic Tech‑savvy and comfortable using a variety of software applications Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage your own schedule in order to work successfully with international teams and meet deadlines Ability to work independently and fully deliver on all commitments Work from almost anywhere with Wi‑Fi Paid annual leave Paid sick leave Flexible use of paid family responsibility leave Paid holidays Life insurance Eligible for annual bonus Reimbursement for certain personal flight tickets Income replacement insurance Flexible working schedule in some roles Optional IT Hardware Buyback Program Choice of Mac or PC company laptop Other Benefits: Tremendous professional development growth opportunities in the privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity niche The chance to have a long‑lasting effect on a small but growing international business Work in an open environment with a team that respects your ideas and contributions Occasional opportunities to travel in North America and Europe Our HR Privacy Notice is available at the following link: Referrals increase your chances of interviewing at VeraSafe by 2x. #J-18808-Ljbffr
