Position Title: Bush Balm Manager Program: Bush Balm Social Enterprise Location: Alice Springs Classification: WDNWPT Aboriginal Corporation EA: Admin Worker Level 5 Responsible To: Social Enterprise Manager Position Summary The Bush Balm Manager is responsible for the day‑to‑day operation of Bush Balm business, ensuring that high quality bush medicine products are made for patients and customers; good relationships with community are maintained; the enterprise is financially viable; collaborating with Social Enterprise Manager to pursue business and community‑guided development opportunities that reflect the vision of knowledge holders and are informed by ongoing engagement with the communities we work with; and mentoring staff and providing opportunities for development in a nurturing environment. The Bush Balm Manager also plays an important role in representing Purple House externally, providing outstanding customer service and delivering or overseeing engaging presentations and workshops about Bush Balm and the importance of bush medicine. This can involve interstate/intrastate travel, weekend and out of hours work. About Purple House Our mission is to improve the lives of people with renal failure, reunite families and reduce the incidence of kidney disease in our communities. We are run by Aboriginal people for Aboriginal people and work to provide culturally appropriate dialysis services in remote communities, helping people to get home to country and family. Standard Requirements Demonstrate a courteous and respectful manner and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Functions (Key Responsibilities) Collaborate with the Social Enterprise Manager to identify and action business development and community‑guided strategic vision and opportunities. Mentor, develop and support the Bush Balm team. Manage the Bush Balm Shop and oversee the team to provide retail customer service Monday to Friday. Oversee and delegate all aspects of production, sales, internal and external distribution, and general business administration, ensuring quality standards are consistently met. Manage procurement of ingredients and packaging, including liaison with suppliers. Ensure efficient resource management, high levels of quality control, minimise loss and report on business performance. Oversee the development and delivery of bush medicine workshops and presentations to external groups or media by the Bush Balm team. Manage the schedule of market stalls, including working at markets (occasional travel or evening/weekend work required). Ensure Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property protocols are kept up to date and implemented. Maintain strong relationships with patients, directors, stakeholders, and knowledge holders, ensuring ongoing, meaningful benefits for all relevant parties. Ensure that the Bush Balms store & kitchen is always maintained and kept clean; report maintenance issues in a timely manner. Contribute to the effective running of the Social Enterprise Hub by working closely with the Purple Shed Manager to shape a welcoming, vibrant space, and supporting site maintenance, events, and catering. Collaborate with other Purple House teams on wellbeing activities related to Bush Balm, including the development of patient‑led events, exhibitions, and merchandise. Promote a safe work environment in accordance with legislative requirements, adhere to Work Health Safety guidelines, and report all incidents and near misses. Other duties as required within trained capability and classification. About You You are responsible, reliable and demonstrate good judgement. Qualifications Strong business acumen or community development with minimum 2 years’ experience in a community enterprise involving business development and retail/wholesale sales. Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop a team. Experience overseeing service delivery with a high attention to detail. Well‑developed interpersonal skills, able to interact confidently with the public and ensure delivery of excellent customer. Advanced organisational and task management skills. Intermediate computer literacy experienced in the use of business productivity suite, POS and content management applications. Recent (less than 6 months old) National Criminal History Check.
