Shift Pursuit is working with a tax and accounting firm based in Durban to find a skilled and experienced Senior Tax Manager. The Senior Tax Manager will be responsible for leading the tax unit, offering strategic guidance, managing technical tax work, mentoring team members, and ensuring operational and financial performance. This role suits someone with deep tax knowledge, strong leadership abilities, and the ability to manage high‑value client relationships. They are looking for a strong leader who can help shape the future of the department. Requirements CA (SA) or LLB Master’s in Taxation Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field Minimum of 7 years’ experience in tax, with at least 5 years in a management position Strong understanding of tax compliance, advisory, and team leadership Able to manage multiple deadlines and work with a range of clients Key Responsibilities Tax Strategy and Advisory Lead tax planning and advisory work for companies and individuals. Provide guidance on complex areas such as mergers and acquisitions, offshore structuring, and estate planning. Draft and review tax opinions and proposals for restructuring. Stay up to date with changes in tax legislation and provide practical solutions. Team Leadership and Development Manage and mentor a team of tax professionals. Drive a culture of learning, performance, and accountability. Oversee performance reviews, training plans, and career development. Financial Management Take responsibility for budgeting, billing, recoveries, and overall profitability of the tax function. Monitor WIP and debtor management. Identify areas for service expansion and opportunities to increase revenue. Operations and Delivery Ensure projects and tax engagements are delivered on time and meet quality expectations. Implement and maintain internal processes and standards. Produce regular reports on team and department performance. Compliance and Risk Oversee tax compliance processes, including submissions, audits, disputes, and voluntary disclosures. Act as the point of contact for SARS matters and external reviews. Ensure internal controls are in place to reduce risk and improve efficiency. Client Engagement Act as a trusted advisor to key clients. Lead meetings, manage escalations, and provide high‑quality tax solutions. Build and maintain strong, long‑term relationships with clients. Technology and Innovation Encourage the use of cloud‑based systems, automation, and digital tools. Introduce more efficient ways of working using technology. Help upskill the team on emerging tax tech trends and tools.
