Key Responsibilities:
Operational Supervision:
  • Oversee day-to-day drilling operations, ensuring adherence to approved drilling programs, schedules, and budgets.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of drilling crews, contractors, and service providers.
  • Monitor the performance of drilling equipment and operations to achieve optimum efficiency and minimal downtime.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and functionality of drilling rigs and associated equipment.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):
  • Promote and enforce a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with HSE policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety briefings and ensure all personnel are aware of and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Investigate and report incidents, accidents, or near misses and implement corrective actions.
Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure all drilling operations comply with local, national, and international regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to drilling activities, inspections, and certifications.
Planning and Execution:
  • Collaborate with engineers and project teams to plan drilling operations, including well design, casing, and cementing programs.
  • Optimize drilling parameters and procedures to improve well delivery and cost efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to resolve operational challenges.
Reporting and Communication:
  • Prepare and submit detailed daily and periodic drilling reports to management.
  • Communicate effectively with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to align operational objectives.
  • Participate in planning meetings and operational reviews to ensure continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelors degree or diploma in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in drilling operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • In-depth knowledge of drilling techniques, well control, and rig equipment.
  • Certification in well control (e.g., IWCF or IADC WellSharp) is mandatory.
  • Familiarity with South African oil and gas regulations and industry best practices.
Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills to manage teams and handle operational challenges.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to optimize drilling performance.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in preparing technical reports and documentation.
  • Ability to work under pressure in remote and challenging environments.
