Engineering Geologist Intern

Experience and Skills:

The candidate must:

  • Have a BSc (honours) degree in Engineering Geology.
  • An active Candidate Natural Scientist registration with SACNASP or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated interest in Geological Engineering or related field, and have a strong to desire to advance skills related to SRKs work and projects.
  • 0-2 Years of relevant experience.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by SRKs policies and procedures.
  • Capable of taking direction from supervisors, mentors and managers to executive projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, i.e. expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology and tools.
  • Have good written and communication skills (in English).
  • Knowledge and understanding of MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project and MS PowerPoint.
  • AutoCAD and Civil 3D knowledge will be an advantage.
  • Have a desire to learn and grow quickly as well as to develop skills associated with the engineering field.
  • Be willing to work across disciplines and to develop a diverse skill set.
  • Work as a part of a team, providing support where required.
  • Be resourceful, with good initiative and the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities:

  • Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Learn basic principles of Engineering Geology.
  • Assist with project research, field work (soil profiling and core logging), including preliminary design calculations and analysis.
  • Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions and cost estimates.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.

  • There is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
