Assistant Insurance Manager

DP World City of Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa Assistant Insurance Manager - SSA DP World City of Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa The role will be a focal point of Insurance activities for Logistics and Freight Forwarding within the SSA region, supporting Group Insurance Dubai and reporting to the regional lead. It is to ensure a coordinated insurance strategy is executed. There will be daily interaction with brokers/underwriters and business units regarding the placement of risk, requiring the individual to assist our SSA business units with contract negotiation and risk transfer/pricing. Key Performance Areas Manage claims process across certain policies and coordinate the management of large losses. Investigate loss trends and develop appropriate recommendations for loss prevention. Support awareness of Global Insurance strategy and advise on best practices through workshops, presentations and training programmes for local and regional colleagues as well as external stakeholders. Provide timely day‑to‑day support for regions and senior management. Provide advice and support in underwriting decisions and claims assessment. Review, assess and amend both standard and non‑standard customer, supplier and third‑party contracts to ensure insurance‑related contract risks are transferred/mitigated. Logistics/Freight Forwarding renewal/op‑specific insurance contracts to ensure appropriate and cost‑effective cover is in place. Play an active role in contractual review and negotiation. Monitor claims process and liaise accordingly. Monitor premium payment status. Assist with issuance of insurance documentation. Respond to cover queries from business units. Engage and educate the business around ongoing consolidation of DP World’s insurance covers. Engage in service partner tenders as required. Act as an ambassador for DP World at all times when working; promote and demonstrate positive behaviours in harmony with DP World’s Principles, values and culture; ensure the highest level of safety is applied in all activities; understand and follow DP World’s Code of Conduct and Ethics policies. Comply and maintain claims recording, adhere to reporting procedures and contribute to handling strategy where appropriate. Work with regional lead to provide insurance solutions and operate a ‘no‑surprise’ culture. Qualifications Required Tertiary qualification in insurance, e.g. higher certificate in insurance or significant experience in the insurance field. Experience and Skills Required Minimum 5 years insurance industry experience. Minimum 3 years experience working within a logistics insurance organisation. Sound knowledge of insurance principles and law. Technical insurance management, commercial contract reviews and commercial acumen. A good understanding of the emerging trends and developments in insurance management practices in multi‑national organisations.
